Letters to the Editor: June 26

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

I was sad to read that the Central Bark Bakery, a wonderful little unique shop, is closing in downtown Pensacola.

Every day there are stories talking about revitalizing downtown, and here we have a good example of a great specialty shop that is not going to survive.

Highly ranked DE commits to MSU

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

EAST LANSING - The first game of the Mark Dantonio era at Michigan State is more than two months away - Sept. 1 vs. Alabama-Birmingham - but the pursuit of players is hot right now.

Dantonio and his staff have two verbal commitments for the class of 2008, with a chance at more prominent, in-state names in the next few weeks.

Jay residents want new school

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Jay residents want two things their children to be safe at school, and a new high school.

Those were the most prevalent comments heard by Santa Rosa County School District officials Monday night during a public hearing on the repair, renovation or replacement of Jay High School, which has severe cracks in its walls. They outlined costs $700,000 to $15 million and a time line of about two years.

"Can you, in good faith, say if a tornado or high winds (come up), our kids are going to be safe in this school?" said Paul Lambert, citing the March tornado that killed students at Enterprise High School in Alabama. "It's a no-brainer to me to build a new facility from everything I've heard tonight."
