The Sun newspapers took home 16 awards presented at the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors' annual meeting in Ponte Vedra Beach on Friday afternoon.
North Port editor Elaine Allen-Emrich and former staff writer Alyssa Schnugg won a first place in daily deadline reporting for their story on the death of 6-year-old Coralrose Fullwood in September. Schnugg is now working for the Oxford Eagle in Mississippi.
Photographer Kharli Rose won a first-place award in the prestigious "Body of Work" category. "From spot news to feature portraits, she takes daily situations and makes them fresh," judges said of Rose's work. Rose picked up another award with a second place for feature photography.
