Jolie has remained out of public view since arriving in southern Ho Chi Minh City last Wednesday to pick up the 3 1/2-year-old boy from an orphanage and traveling to Hanoi on Monday to complete the adoption.
The boy's birth name is Pham Quang Sang but Jolie has renamed him Pax Thien Jolie, a name that combines the Latin word for peace and the Vietnamese word for sky or heaven.

'300' Conquers Box Office for a 2nd Week
Monday, March 19, 2007LOS ANGELES - Spartans continued to fend off the box-office competition as the battle epic "300" took the No. 1 spot for the second-straight weekend with $31.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The Warner Bros. movie, the story of vastly outnumbered Spartans defending against Persian invaders, shot past the $100 million mark after just a week in theaters, bringing its total to $127.5 million.
Disney's road comedy "Wild Hogs" also crossed the $100 million mark, remaining the No. 2 movie with $18.8 million to lift its total to $104 million.

Monday, March 19, 2007Angelina Jolie spent a low-key weekend in Vietnam dodging the paparazzi in Ho Chi Minh City, finalizing the adoption of the 3-year-old boy she picked up from the Tam Binh orphanage Thursday.
The actress and U.N. goodwill ambassador, 31, evaded photographers outside her hotel Saturday, while a representative obtained a Vietnamese passport for Pham Quang Sang, renamed Pax Thien Jolie, which combines the Latin word for peace and the Vietnamese word for heaven.
In response to an earlier statement from a Vietnamese official that the adoption was fast-tracked, the U.S.-based Adoptions From the Heart agency, which handled the matter for Jolie, said that wasn't the case.

Monday, March 19, 2007To the Editor:American compassion never ceases to amaze me. The next celebrity to adopt a foreign child seems to be Angelina Jolie. Not only is this compassion shown to these children from other countries, it seems pets get a lot of attention. As in the Hurricane Katrina situation, most of the pets found homes with caring families.
Don't get me wrong. Compassion in any form, and to any living being, gets my vote over neglect. However, I can't help but wonder what the children in our own U.S. foster homes, orphanages, etc., feel about this? You know the ones who have been ignored for years.It's not only celebrities doing this, either. Monday, March 19, 2007A nonprofit adoption agency, Adoptions From the Heart in Wynnewood, Pa., says it worked with Angelina Jolie to facilitate the adoption of Pax Thien, 3, from the Tam Binh orphanage in Vietnam.
Jolie began the adoption process with AFTH, which handles both international and domestic adoptions, last summer, according to a press release issued by Toplin & Associates Inc.
In the release, the agency's Vietnam adoption coordinator, Heidi Gonzalez, says Jolie followed the same procedures as all prospective adoptive parents who apply to its Vietnam program.

The perils of a hypersexualized society
Monday, March 19, 2007It is not being alarmist to say that society is bombarded with sexual innuendo. The mentality is, "You have a right to be sexy by any means necessary." Unfortunately, this right or, more often, desire supersedes all moral values, common sense and appropriate behavior.
In a society in which instant gratification is everything, in which we focus on the product rather than the person, people use more elbow grease not to evolve spiritually but to change themselves superficially, thickening the layers between their authentic selves that lie beneath.
In advertising, television, film, sports, music and magazines, sex sells. Pro-sex feminism encourages women to express their sexuality - condemning men for objectifying women but condoning and supporting women who objectify themselves. I strongly believe in equal rights and liberation for women (sexually and otherwise), but where is the dignity, the integrity?
