In April 2006, The Post broke the first story of his illegal profiteering - $1.3 million from the sale of land in Martin County to the South Florida Water Management District. It was part of a scheme to funnel money to the woman he was divorcing. Masilotti said that none of the money went to him, but it did. He said that he wasn't involved in the sale, but he was. In many follow-up stories, The Post exposed those lies and other deals.

Masilotti could get up to five years. He had to forfeit about $9 million worth of property and $175,000 in cash. Apparently, however, arrogance is not something Masilotti intends to give up, even after all that has happened.

No $12 million bids for isle in Bahamas

The Fort Lauderdale auction room had been reserved.
