Prevention the best weapon against fleas and ticks on your pets

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Some tiny creatures multiply quickly, hide well and spread disease. They also love cats and dogs.

Fleas and ticks, which are usually more active in the summer, are a problem year-round, said Dr. Gregg Raino of Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital in Bartonsville. All indoor and outdoor pets should be treated monthly.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- The scene at the Lake Tahoe Community College was just as devastating as the 2,500-acres of charred forest that lie south of the lake's famed crystal blue waters. One by one, residents who had come to learn if their homes had survived Tahoe's worst blaze in 100 years walked away with tears in their eyes.

A woman in jeans and tank top sobbed into a cell phone, her voice quaking.

"Our neighbor's house is standing -- ours is gone," she said into the phone. "Pictures of the girls, my birth certificate, our money, my jewelry, it's all gone. All I have are the clothes on my back. We got the dogs out but we couldn't even find the cat."
