Sharapova, Mauresmo, Venus Roll Along at Wimbledon

Wimbledon, England (Sports Network) - Second-seeded and former champion Maria Sharapova, reigning titlist Amelie Mauresmo and three-time winner Venus Williams were easy second-round winners Thursday at Wimbledon.

The 2004 Wimbledon titlist Sharapova breezed past France's Severine Bremond 6-0, 6-3. The two-time major champion Sharapova was last year's U.S. Open champ and this year's Australian Open runner-up.

Sharapova's third-round opponent will be 26th-seeded Japanese Ai Sugiyama.

Bison Don't Roam,And It's a ProblemFor the Polish Herd

BIALOWIEZA, Poland -- Krzysztof Niedzialkowski is trying to teach Europe's largest land mammal, the bison, to become more European.

To keep the animals from extinction, Mr. Niedzialkowski, coordinator of the European Bison Program, is trying to change the migration patterns of about 400 lowland bison (Bison bonasus bonasus) roaming the primeval forest in northeastern Poland. He wants to persuade Polish bison to breed with other wild herds of the same species in neighboring Lithuania and Slovakia.
