CHICAGO (AP) -- The American Medical Association voted Monday to lobby for laws allowing severely allergic children to bring lifesaving medicine to school. Poor mark vs. NL could cost Indians

If the Indians don't make it to the playoffs, it won't be hard to see what part of their schedule was the culprit.

That would be the dreaded interleague play.

The Indians' quite simply, didn't take advantage of a favorable interleague schedule, while the division rival Tigers feasted on an interleague schedule that was, on paper, much more difficult than the Indians.

CHICAGO ? The American Medical Association voted Monday to lobby for laws allowing severely allergic children to bring lifesaving medicine to school.

Many school districts have policies prohibiting children from bringing medicine to school and 18 states have similar bans, said Dr. Duane Cady, a member of the AMA's Board of Trustees.

When it comes to serious food allergies, denial of medicine at school can be a matter of life and death, according to a measure AMA delegates adopted at their annual policy meeting.

Blackhawks introduce No. 1 pick Kane

CHICAGO -- Patrick Kane is still a teenager, yet the Chicago Blackhawks are already counting on him to spark their dormant offense for many years to come. His chance could come as early as next season.

Kane, taken by the Blackhawks with the first pick of last Friday's NHL draft, was introduced to Chicago on Monday. The 18-year-old player came to town with impressive scoring totals in junior hockey and the belief that he can put up similar numbers on the big stage.

"He's going to be a great player for a long time in this organization," coach Denis Savard said of Kane, a native of Buffalo, N.Y.
