Inmate dies in Caldwell County

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

A 28-year-old Luling woman was pronounced dead Sunday morning, hours after she had been placed in the Caldwell County Jail on a public intoxication charge.

Sarah Trevino was a passenger in a car stopped on U.S. 183 in Lockhart by a sheriff's deputy about 3 a.m. Sunday , according to a written statement from Sheriff Daniel Law. Trevino was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and taken to the Caldwell County Jail. The driver, 35-year-old Natividad Rodriguez, was charged with driving while intoxicated and held in the jail with bail set at $1,000 Monday.

About 9:55 a.m., another inmate saw Trevino turning blue and alerted the jailers, who found Trevino unresponsive and "possibly not breathing," Law and other county officials said. Emergency Medical Services was called, and Trevino was taken to Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos, where she was pronounced dead, Law said.

Letters | The 9/11 estate of Ken Caldwell

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

IWANT TO thank Jill Porter for her excellent column about Elsie Goss-Caldwell and her struggle to defend the estate of her son, Kenny Caldwell, killed in the 9/11 World Trade Center attack.

Her loss was compelling, and her courage in the face of this subsequent hardship is remarkable.

I want to note the commitment of people who've fought with Elsie and those who've suffered because of the 9/11 tragedy. The estate of Kenny Caldwell has been represented by Mitchell Clair, on a pro bono basis, a member of an organization of trial attorneys called Trial Lawyers Care.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- U.S. officials say part of a vehicle barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border that was built on the wrong side of the border will be removed and rebuilt on American soil.
