NEW YORK (Billboard) - Don't you love British people? The British Invasion of 1964 made me an Anglophile forever, but they continue to keep a smile on my face, seemingly oblivious to the imminent music business armageddon, distracting us with their wit and wisdom.
First up is Pete Townshend, one of my all-time favorite people in the world who while on classic rock WAXQ (Q104.3) New York said, "The Police 'classic rock'? I don't think so. This is just music. It's not classic anything." And then added he was looking forward to the band's reunion tour.
The assault on rock's most historic sites continues as London prepares to demolish the Clissold Arms Pub where the Kinks played their first show in 1963 and has served as their mini-museum ever since. "Why on earth can't they have their posh gastro grub and still keep a part of it for tourists, Kinks fans and the curious?" Kinks lead guitarist Dave Davies asked.

Barbra Streisand welcomed Nancy Pelosi to her bluff-top Malibu estate for a fundraising dinner that took in $1.3 million for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
"She's a very good friend of Nancy Pelosi and she wanted to celebrate the first female speaker of the House," said Streisand publicist Dick Guttman.
The 120 invited guests paid up to $50,000 a couple to attend Thursday night's dinner party inside a large white tent erected on the Point Dume property. The fundraiser was an effort to increase the Democrats' majority in the House of Representatives in the 2008 elections, Guttman said.

Raytheon: fences, but no consensus
Is it a coincidence that Raytheon erected a fence at one of its St. Petersburg plants as it nears a union contract deadline? A spokesman for Raytheon on Friday declined to say why the fence, which is topped with barbed wire, was built around the Tyrone-area plant's north parking lot. Calls to representatives of United Auto Workers Local 298, whose contract with the company expires Sunday, were not returned. The union, which represents about 400 Raytheon workers in Pinellas County, has been i...
