Baseball Notable New York Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca was suspended for two games and fined $2,000 yesterday after a tantrum aimed at umpire Marvin Hudson on Saturday in Oakland.
Lo Duca appealed the penalty and cannot be disciplined until after a hearing is held. He was in the starting lineup for last night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Texas Rangers put righthander Vicente Padilla on the 15-day disabled list with an injured right triceps.

MIAMI, June 25 (AP) Three outs left and in comes Kevin Gregg, who steps on the mound and gives the batter a menacing stare behind his reflective shades.
Game over.
That is how the ninth inning has played out this season for Gregg, the Florida Marlins’ closer, who has taken the ball 14 times in save situations and converted every one. Gregg had only four saves in his first 11 professional seasons.

CHICAGO — On a shelf in the office of Chicago White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen, mixed in among the family photos, the Roberto Clemente bobblehead and the Napoleon Dynamite figurine, are four small but intimidating religious icons.
"If you see my saints, you'll be like 'Golly, they're ugly,' " Guillen had said before inviting a visitor to come in. "They've got blood. They've got feathers. You go to the Catholic church, the [saints] have got real nice clothes.
