Traffic bustles by the Oregon College of Art & Craft mostly unaware of this artful enclave on nine rolling, wooded acres just off busy Southwest Barnes Road.

Inside, students wearing earplugs and headphones patiently tap silver over polished mandrels to make bowls and cylinders that will, after hundreds of hours of work, become teapots.

But there's more. Community art classes are offered in the summer and evenings for folks who want to drop in and take advantage of the college's instructors and well-equipped studios. There are summer art camps for the kids. And judging from the line for the Hands-On Cafe, which sometimes reaches out the door of the Centrum Building, more than a few visitors come here for weekday lunch or Sunday brunch, which includes handmade treats such as Italian eggs benedict and Hungarian-style omelets.

That anecdote, from Catherine Allgor's biography of Dolley Madison, shows that today's theatrical anger is not without precedent. But now there is a new style in anger -- fury as a fashion accessory, indignation as evidence of good character.

Under the headline "San Franciscans Hurl Their Rage at Parking Patrol," The New York Times recently described the verbal abuse and physical violence -- there were 28 attacks in 2006 -- inflicted on parking enforcement officers in a city that has a surplus of liberalism and a shortage of parking places.

Iguodala, who was in the lineup after a sore back forced him to miss the 76ers' game with Charlotte on Friday and end a streak of 232 straight appearances, added seven rebounds and six assists for Philadelphia, which has won 10 of its last 14 to remain alive in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Korver finished with 17 for Philadelphia, which got 13 points

We sadly note the passing of Hubert E. Howard of Naples.

Known as Hubie to all, he was one of those pillars of the community at a time when someone so inclined could be involved in everything.

Hubert, who died at age 87, from the 1970s forward ran a sign business and volunteered at City Hall, the hospital and chamber of commerce on matters ranging from beach renourishment to law enforcement and long-range planning. Prior to moving here he worked in mining, banking and shopping-center management, and served in the Navy.

Pet store sues actor Mickey Rourke following protest

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Beach pet store is suing actor Mickey Rourke after he staged yet another protest, accusing the store of selling him a sick puppy.

The owners of Hot Dog Puppies, located along Espanola Way, filed a lawsuit against Rourke on Saturday for defamation of character after the "Sin City" star staged a protest in front of the business.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Skeletal remains of eight people were found in a wooded area, where investigators believe they had been for several years, police said.

The remains, which had no skin or clothing, were found Friday in an unlit wooded area about 25 feet from an unpaved section of an east Fort Myers road, Fort Myers police Lt. Brian Phillips said.

Investigators were working to identify the bodies and were handling the deaths as homicides unless they find evidence to the contrary, police said. No trauma was evident, Phillips said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- An unidentified German businessman is hoping his 500-thousand-dollar investment in Anna Nicole Smith's two diaries pays a handsome profit.

The buyer plans to sell the information to various media outlets, then resell the diaries by the end of the year.

The auction company that handled the sale on e-Bay says the "soap opera value" of the diaries could be worth more than a (m) million dollars alone, including the rights to publish photos of the pages.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Former Gov. Jeb Bush may have been denied a University of Florida honorary degree, but he has been given alumni status.

The University of Florida Alumni Association's Board of Directors passed the resolution Saturday naming the former governor an honorary alumnus.

The move comes after the school's Faculty Senate voted 38-28 Thursday to deny Bush an honorary degree.

Frederic von Anhalt said he's "almost sure" the test will prove he's the father of 6-month-old Dannielynn. He says he carried on a decades-long affair with the former Playboy Playmate of the Year.

"I'm almost sure the baby's mine, almost sure," von Anhalt, 59, said after having a cotton swab brushed along the inside of his mouth. He added he hopes to gain custody as soon as possible.

BOSTON – The heavy lifting on this six-game, 10-day road trip has been done. Friday's game was an opportunity for the Mavericks to kick back and kick butt.

The Mavericks' 109-95 victory over Boston wasn't nearly as intense as the three games that preceded it on this trip. After disposing of the two teams with the best records in the Eastern Conference (Detroit and Cleveland) and a playoff contender in New York, the Celtics were an afterthought.

VA will investigate North Carolina hospital

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Veterans Affairs Department is sending investigators to the Salisbury veterans hospital on Monday to check reports of poor care, and a key lawmaker with VA oversight plans congressional hearings in mid-April on the hospital.

The inspection follows Charlotte Observer stories about a 2005 investigation that found two veterans who died at the hospital had received shoddy care and another review last year that found other problems with care.

"It's safe to say they'll be investigating some of the reports you've been reporting on," Matt Burns, the VA press secretary told the Observer Friday.
