MEYERS, Calif. (AP) - Forestry officials say it could be Sunday before a raging wildfire near Lake Tahoe in California is fully contained.
The blaze has scorched almost 2,500 acres -- that's nearly four square miles. By early Monday evening, fire officials said the blaze was about 40% contained.
The fire has destroyed more than 200 buildings and forced hundreds of residents to flee.

BOSTON (AP) - Boston Mayor Tom Menino says an 8-year-old boy gunned down in his own home Sunday night was actually shot accidentally by a 7-year-old cousin as they played with an illegal, unregistered handgun.
Relatives told police that LaQuarrie Jefferson was killed when armed intruders burst into the apartment. But investigators became skeptical as they continued to question family members.
Menino cut short a trip to California in response to the shooting.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The family of a Los Angeles woman who was found dead in Rome during a custody battle with her Italian boyfriend say they're frustrated and relieved the man accused of killing her died on the witness stand.
Carlo Ventre's attorney says his client was testifying for the first time in Rome last Wednesday about his relationship with his girlfriend, Toni Dykstra, when he suffered a heart attack and died.
Ventre was charged with killing Dykstra in his Rome apartment in 1998.

SEATTLE (AP) - A fisherman whose hand was pinned between his sinking boat and a log cut off 2 of his fingertips with a pocket knife to get free just minutes before help arrived.
A spokeswoman at a Seattle hospital says 51-year-old William Messenger is in satisfactory condition. It's not known if surgeons were able to reattach the fingertips.
Officials say Messenger and his future son-in-law Jarrad Todd were fishing on the Wynoochee River Sunday when rapids swept their drift boat into a log jam. The side of the boat slammed against a log, pinning Messenger's left index and middle fingers.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Only 2 of the sextuplets born to a Minnesota couple are still alive, and both are in critical condition.
Officials at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis say the fourth sextuplet died Saturday morning. The other three died within the first week of their June Tenth birth.
The parents, Ryan and Brianna Morrison of St. Louis Park, released a statement saying their faith remains strong and that their families, friends and churches have provided them with "great comfort."
