Just a few days ago, everything seemed fine from the outside. The man who lived upstairs from Sharron and Jerry Kanive was out barbecuing as a young boy played on his balcony.
"They seemed like they got along all right," Mr. Kanive said of the family. "There was no arguing, and the cops didn't come out."
But by Monday afternoon, something happened that led to the apparent murder-suicide of the estranged couple inside, police said. Their bodies were found in a living room at The Corners apartments in the 6300 block of Shady Brook Lane after concerned relatives called authorities.

FREEPORT ? Investigators are looking into alcohol and speed as possible contributing factors in a head-on collision Sunday evening that killed a West Columbia woman.
Sophia Gazca, 26, of West Columbia was taken to Brazosport Regional Health System in Lake Jackson after the crash and died Sunday night, Freeport Police Department Capt. Gus Flores said.
Gazca was a passenger in a 2000 Ford Focus heading south on FM 1495 at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, a quarter-mile south of the Highway 36 intersection, Freeport Police Lt. Steve Ricks said. A grey 2007 Ford Focus driven by Marion Pugh, 47, of Surfside Beach was traveling north on FM 1495 and apparently veered into the southbound lane, striking the Taurus, Ricks said.

There is a chance that booming in the sky Wednesday night above Detroit and Windsor might not be coming from the International Freedom Festival fireworks.
The National Weather Service is predicting a 40% chance of showers or a thunderstorm beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing into the night.
