Anna Nicole Seidlin

Monday, June 25, 2007

According to Broadcasting & Cable magazine, the ex-Broward County judge who cried when ruling on who would take possession of Anna Nicole Smith's remains, will shoot a pilot show for CBS Television Distribution. As was rumored in February, when Larry Seidlin was embarrassing himself, the state and his profession, Mr. Seidlin hopes to play a judge on TV. That figures. He was playing at being a judge when he was on the bench.

America needs another "judge" show as much as America needs a Paris Hilton update. There's Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown and Judge Hatchett, just to name three opportunities for average citizens and washed-up reality-show "stars" to humiliate themselves before the camera. Think of the shows as the "classier" Jerry Springer or Maury Povich. Here's part of the story line for the July 5 Judge Hatchett: "The plaintiff states that when she rented a room in the defend...

Broward and the state gain by shedding a lousy jurist. After that, everything fits perfectly into these times when all it takes to reach celebrity status is the ability to drop one's sense of shame. Anna Nicole Smith had no talent beyond strategically outrageous behavior, the more public the better. Who better to profit from her case than someone with similar skills?

Lawmakers fail

Saturday, June 23, 2007

I don't know who I am most disgusted with over the failed attempt at meaningful and long-overdue tax reform: the Democrats in the Florida Legislature, local politicians, union leaders who carried their water or the masses who stood ignorantly by and allowed the manipulation to occur virtually unchallenged.

I am referring to the shameful scare tactics employed by local politicians. They threatened to lay off essential personnel like teachers, firefighters and police officers if taxes were rolled back to 2001 levels. If it were true that reasonable tax reform would mean that local governments could not afford these essential services, then how did they afford them before tax revenues skyrocketed?

The tax revenues are simply the result of assessed values multiplied by the millage rate, and the massive increase in property values has created a windfall of tax dollars for local governments. It makes me sick to see local politicians feeding hungrily at the tax trough.

This Week: Milestones

Saturday, June 23, 2007

Blissful events decorated the calendar this week as babies were born, birthdays were celebrated and rings were exchanged along with wedding vows.

The baby stork was working overtime this week as three more celebrity offspring were welcomed in to the world.

America's sweetheart Julia Roberts added a third child to her brood (twins Phinnaeus and Hazel will be 3 in November) when Henry Daniel was born on Monday in Los Angeles. On the same day, Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin, welcomed baby daughter Sam. The news couldn't come soon enough for the golfer who came in second at the U.S. Open on Sunday.

All Rise, Here Comes Judge 'Weepner'

Friday, June 22, 2007

Judge Wapner was firm and fair, Judge Judy is tough as nails. But when Judge Larry Seidlin gets his own courtroom show, they better put a big box of tissues on the bench.

Seidlin, the weepy Florida judge who presided over the fight over where to bury Anna Nicole Smith, has inked a deal to develop a 2008 show with CBS Television Distribution and is slated to film a pilot in L.A. next month, Broadcasting & Cable magazine reported on its Web site.

The Bronx-born jurist is leaving his court job after spending a week in Hollywood meeting with TV execs in search of a deal. His last day on the bench is July 31, according to his letter of resignation.
