Tom Sizemore gets 16-month sentence

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Tom Sizemore has been sentenced to 16 months in prison. A judge in Los Angeles ruled the alleged discovery of methamphetamine in the actor's car had violated his probation in a previous drug case.

Sizemore, whose screen credits include "Saving Private Ryan" and "Black Hawk Down," didn't speak during the hearing.

Authorities arrested the 45-year-old actor in Bakersfield on May eighth.

Troubled actor Tom Sizemore has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for violating his probation in a 2004 crystal methamphetamine possession case.

The star appeared at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday. He will serve his sentence at Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego, California, which has a drug rehab facility.

William D. Merritt refused to stand down, despite multiple warnings from deputies.

The 42-year-old Port Charlotte man continued to get in the face of the authorities, and even grabbed a steak knife at one point, according to a Charlotte County Sheriff's Office report. Following a jolt with a Taser, Merritt allegedly tried to kick the weapon from the deputy, cutting his thumb.

Merritt, 21323 Hepner Ave., was charged with obstruction and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Child neglect, abuse mark a 10-year high

SALEM -- The number of Oregon children who became victims of neglect and abuse reached a 10-year high last year, according to a state report released Monday.

The annual report, "The Status of Children in Oregon's Child Protection System," said more than 12,000 children were victimized in 2006, a 7 percent increase from 2005 and a rate that is growing faster than the population.

The document came the same day that Gov. Ted Kulongoski signed five bills into law aimed at improving lives for children who come into the Oregon child welfare system.

County task force cracks down on Ecstasy

The Thurston County Narcotics Task Forces seizure of around 5,000 Ecstasy pills during a bust in Tukwila was its largest Ecstasy seizure since 2002, the head of the task force said Monday.
