REGIONAL BRIEFS

Friday, June 29, 2007

The Family Foundation of Kentucky yesterday asked Attorney General Greg Stumbo to review the University of Kentucky's latest plan for offering domestic-partner benefits to its employees.

Stumbo's office ruled earlier this month that partner-benefit health plans being offered by UK and the University of Louisville were unconstitutional. It said they violated a 2004 amendment to the state constitution that defined marriage as the union between one man and one woman.

However, Stumbo said the universities could meet constitutional muster if they broadened eligibility to include more people.

So You Think You Can Produce?June 29, 2007; Page W2

Friday, June 29, 2007

Faced with a crumbling business model, the TV Guide Network is reinventing itself -- as one of the channels that it has traditionally covered.

TV Guide channel reinvents itself as yet another reality TV venue, reports The Journal's Sam Schechner. See clips of a new show by producers of "America's Top Model."

The channel, known for decades for its scrolling bars of TV listings, is kicking off its most aggressive programming slate ever this summer. Earlier this month, it launched "Making News: Texas Style," its first original reality series, about a local news channel in Texas. Friday, June 29, 2007

The musical genius of Prince was immediately apparent when the teenaged artist released his 1979 hit tune, "I Wanna Be Your Lover."

The world was just getting a peek at the young man who would blossom into an award-winning performer, a man whose artistry and influence would span the globe. Prince's music has spanned myriad styles - from his early material, rooted in R&B, rock, and soul - and he has constantly expanded his musical palette throughout his career, absorbing many other genres, including funk, New Wave, pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop.

Born June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince Rogers Nelson honed the circumstances of heritage as the background for his hit movie and Oscar-winning soundtrack, 1984's "Purple Rain." Although wildly popular before that point, from there, Prince's superstardom was lunched.

Michael Jackson's Family Calls for Help

Friday, June 29, 2007

Michael Jackson’s siblings — including Janet — and his parents are so worried about the failing pop star that they’ve sent out an emergency 911 call.

Sources tell me that the Jacksons are in the process of contacting Thomas Mesereau, the superstar criminal lawyer who won Jackson an acquittal two years ago in his child molestation trial.

The word from the Jacksons is that they’ve met several times as a family and discussed bringing Mesereau in for an intervention to save Michael.
