Former WBTV news anchor Sara James and her best friend, Ginger Mauney, a filmmaker in Namibia, have written a memoir, "The Best of Friends: Two Women, Two Continents, and One Enduring Friendship" (William Morrow; $24.95). They'll be in Charlotte Tuesday for a 5 p.m. signing at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, 4345 Barclay Downs Drive. Reading Life Editor Jeri Krentz caught up with them via e-mail.
What were the challenges of opening your private lives?
Ginger: One of the great things about getting older is learning to know and accept yourself, and for me, this book in many ways affirms that. Over the years, I've forgiven myself for my mistakes (or at least most of them) ... and learned to accept that they were part of my learning curve.

"Can we just go to a scruffy coffee shop somewhere?" he asks.
From the way he's bouncing around the room, it's evident that this isn't so much a request as an itinerary. Winterbottom, who has the frame of a whippet, is on the move and anyone who wants to talk to him will have to follow.
If you've seen even one of the British director's many films he has directed 15 in the past 12 years his desire to get up and go makes perfect sense. He's got a documentary style, and in films such as "24 Hour Party People" and "In This World," it often seems as though Winterbottom and his crew just stumbled upon some real drama with their cameras conveniently rolling.
