It's sad to see America devoting hundreds of billions of dollars to a totally avoidable and seemingly unwinnable war in Iraq when that huge sum of money could be doing so much good in the United States and elsewhere in the world.
The money siphoned to Iraq could be used at home to reduce our growing national debt and help provide uninsured people with healthcare. By Thomas DelapaSomewhere beating within A Mighty Heart there’s a great story about Mariane Pearl, the French TV reporter whose husband, Wall Street Journal writer Daniel Pearl, was kidnapped and brutally slain in Pakistan by terrorists in 2002. This gritty semi- documentary account often plays like a veiled reality show on the life of star Angelina Jolie.Based on the best-selling book by Mariane Pearle, Heart could break the record for the number of emoting star close-ups in one movie. If...
Shaky, hand-held cameras in hand, British director Michael Winterbottom (Road to Sarajevo) reconstructs the events surrounding Daniel Pearl’s disappearance from Karachi in January 2002. It was only a few months after the 9/11 attacks that shook the world. The U.S. had invaded Afghanistan to depose the Taliban and search for the Al-Qaeda terrorists and Osama bin Laden. The Journal’s South Asia bureau chief, Pearl was living with his wife in Karachi, where he was researching a st...
