The phone, which goes on sale at 6 p.m. in each time zone of the United States today, had hogged so much of the media spotlight that St. Paul, Minn.'s minor league baseball team planned to spoof its porcine mascot by selling a real "iPig."

"This phone is going to blow everything out of the water," Tony Cecchini, 40, a San Antonio, Texas air conditioner salesman said while braving a downpour to wait outside an AT&T store Thursday morning.

Apple and AT&T Inc. - the phone's exclusive cellular carrier - have Advertisementnot disclosed how many units will be available at launch, adding to the frenzy that more typically accompanies the releases of video game consoles.

A proposal by two West Slope legislators to funnel mineral leasing payments into a permanent fund for state colleges and universities is a good idea. It is not, however, a reason to rush drilling rigs willy-nilly into the scenic and environmentally sensitive Roan Plateau.

There are two separate, albeit related, issues concerning the Roan. The first is whether, when and how to extract the area's oil and gas reserves. The second is what to do with the state's share of the leasing revenues, when and if they arrive.

As to the first question, The Post is in somewhat the same position voiced by St. Augustine, who was quite a playboy in his youth. The great theologian supposedly once prayed: "Oh, Lord, grant me continence - but not just yet."

The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation drew 110 golfers to its Lung Cancer: Drive It Off The Earth Golf Tournament II at the Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae Monday, June 25.

The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation exists to eradicate lung cancer through research, screening, education, prevention and treatment. The tournament was a hole in one, raising over $150,000 for a brand new screening program to begin at a hospital in Redwood City this September.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Hugh Hefner's Playboy lifestyle is set to hit the big screen.

The film, to carry the title of his magazine, will be directed by Brett Ratner, whose credits include the "Rush Hour" movies and "X-Men: The Last Stand."

It will be produced for Universal Pictures by Brian Grazer, who won the best picture Oscar in 2002 for "A Beautiful Mind."

The seventh and last installment of the Harry Potter series goes on sale in less than a month and, like many avid fans, I can hardly get out of bed due to the anticipation.

I've read all the Harry Potter books, including the last one, the name of which I can't recall but seemed to run to about 3,000 pages. Because the series has run on so long, some of the details of the story are a little fuzzy to me now, but I'm pretty sure Harry is still alive and possibly filling out account ledgers for Ebenezer Scrooge, though I could be confusing that with another story.

Security surrounding the ending of the series has been extremely tight to the point that the White House and CIA may want to get some tips from publishing houses if they want to plug their leaks.

Former UA All-American Jason Terry and Olympic gold medalist Amanda Beard were on the show. Terry was filling in for regular co-host John Salley. Beard, who is on the cover of this month's Playboy, was a guest.
