The Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibition "Covered Bridges: Spanning the American Landscape," is set to open at the Preble County Historical Center on Friday, June 29. The Grand Opening Festivity weekend will be from 1-5 p.m. on both Saturday June 30 and Sunday, July 1.
The exhibit celebrates these iconic structures and the individuals behind their development through photographs, architectural schematics and models. It will be in Preble County through Sunday, Sept. 2.
The Preble County Historical Center is located at 7693 Swartsel Road, Eaton, Ohio Exhibit hours Monday-Friday will be from 11 a.m. -4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday exhibit hours will be from 1-5 p.m.

The two most famous words from the world of poker will soon be shouted at the card room at the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track thanks to a new Florida law that takes effect Sunday.
No limit Texas Hold 'Em the poker game that has skyrocketed in popularity because of televised tournaments will be offered in Florida card rooms beginning Sunday.
It is the latest expansion of gambling in Florida and the first time since 2003 betting limits have been increased.

It's disappointing -- and shocking -- to see top generals in Iraq openly lamenting the inadequacies of the Iraqi security forces.
It shows how deep the problems are.
Worse, it shines a spotlight on the question that illuminates what has been wrong with the Iraq effort all along: What's the plan?

KABUL, Afghanistan - Counterinsurgency warfare is difficult, complex and often frustrating, especially in contrast to the seeming simplicity of past wars. We must avoid two extremes in order to understand and win the kind of wars our country is fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It would be a mistake to continue applying to insurgencies the kind of "find, fix and finish" operations that were developed for purely military wars, in effect addressing symptoms but not causes. The opposite mistake is to despair that traditional measures of success, such as body counts and the seizure of key terrain, don't produce success, and to quit rather than adapt. Both conclusions are intellectually lazy, and neither is appropriate if we care about protecting our way of life.
