Call it a Golden opportunity for Myles and Ann Golden. And Rotary International.

For more than 30 years, Rotarians Myles and Ann Golden have shared their home, their lives and their culture with more than 30 foreign exchange students. This week, as the international organization prepares for a year that will wear a "Rotary Shares," theme, the Goldens have an ideal opportunity to share their message.

Myles Golden was inducted as the next District 7750 governor Tuesday, kicking off a project that will send the couple to 55 area Rotary clubs and more than 3,000 Rotarians in the next 12 months.

Ukraine celebrates Constitution Day tomorrow, a day to honor freedom

Tomorrow will be a national holiday in Ukraine -- Constitution Day. The parliament of Ukraine "Verkhovna Rada" adapted a new constitution June 28, 1996, nearly six years after the restoration of Ukraine's independence (Aug. 24, 1991).

Until that date Ukraine was governed by the constitution of the former Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which was amended by elimination of Article 6 which provided for "the leading role" of the Communist Party, and by adding a provision for the separation of authority among the three branches of government: legislative, executive, and judicial.

Blair to be named to join Mideast envoy

WASHINGTON (AP) Outgoing British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be named on Wednesday as special envoy for the international diplomatic Quartet on the Middle East with a portfolio focused on Palestinian economic and political reform, a senior U.S. official said.

Members of the Quartet, the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia, will give their public blessing to the post and announce that Blair has agreed to take the job in simultaneous statements from Washington, New York, Brussels and Moscow, the official told The Associated Press.

The official, who insisted on anonymity because the statements are still being drafted, spoke after being briefed on a meeting of quartet representatives held earlier Tuesday in Jerusalem.
