A jockey who kicked his horse in the stomach before a race was suspended 30 days and fined $1,000 by Philadelphia Park officials Monday. The decision against veteran jockey Victor Molina came three days after his 40-minute disciplinary hearing for kicking 2-year-old colt Yes Yes Ohyes. Molina, a 27-year veteran who's been racing at Philadelphia Park since 1988, hoped for only a fine and was surprised by the severity of the penalties issued by the track's stewards. "The kick wasn't what I'm about," Molina said. "The penalty doesn't warrant what I did." ...
Ralph J. Morano, a longtime trainer and driver who made a second career fighting for harness horsemen's rights as the track representative at The Meadowlands, has died. He was 74.

We regularly attend the Wednesday concerts at Stockton's Victory Park - a most enjoyable and pleasant way to spend an evening.The entire operation, beginning with the unfolding of the portable stage to its dismantling and disappearance down the street, is impressive.What has especially impressed us is the Parks and Recreation Department's operation. The workers, obviously expert and devoted to their assignment, conduct their operation with precision and expertise.
They clearly have good rapport with the musicians and know their special needs. They obviously know their assignment well and exercise their role professionally.It's a family affair, with grandma to the grandchildren in attendance.Everyone has free rein as the technicians ply their trade - and the family is clearly enjoying a very special weekly outing.In between technical duties, one of the Recreation Department staff members sets up the barbecue for picnicking during the musical presentation...

Baseball hits the season's halfway pole this weekend, and we're here to ask about the ailing. This is for the downtrodden teams who will celebrate the coming holiday with grilled disappointment and a couple of scoops of homemade frustration.
