Future Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing, who finished a 17-year NBA playing career in Orlando, could be returning to the Magic next season as an assistant coach under Stan Van Gundy.
According to those close to Ewing, he is strongly considering an offer from Van Gundy to rejoin the Magic and help coach 21-year-old center Dwight Howard.
Ewing didn't coach in the NBA last season, leaving the Houston Rockets after three years working under head coach Jeff Van Gundy, Stan's brother. He also served as an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards.

Jason Simontacchi and Jesus Flores could be considered the Washington Nationals' odd couple. The differences between the roommates are unmistakable, but the pitcher and catcher both played key roles in the Nationals' 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.
After devising a pitching plan at their three-bedroom apartment Saturday night, Simontacchi shut down the Indians for six innings and Flores drove in two runs to help Washington take two of three in the series.
"It was a matter of us staying with the game plan, and it worked," Simontacchi said.

WASHINGTON (AP) Jason Simontacchi and Jesus Flores could be considered the Washington Nationals odd couple.
The differences between the roommates are unmistakable, but the pitcher and catcher both played key roles in the Nationals 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.
After devising a pitching plan at their three-bedroom apartment Saturday night, Simontacchi shut down the Indians for six innings and Flores drove in two runs to help Washington take two of three in the series.

Al Thornton has faced several turning points, several decisions, and several transitions, all of which has led him to an enviable position among the fraternity of basketball players. After achieving star status in the college game, the former Perry High School Panther can now sit back in that famous green room and let someone else make the big decision.
All of those choices led Thornton from Perry to Florida State University. His next stop: Madison Square Garden in New York City for the 2007 National Basketball Association Draft on June 28. He has his invitation in hand, which isnt surprising since he is not only a projected first-round selection, but also a potential top 10 pick.
The 6-8, 220-pound forward is already finding out a little bit about life in major professional basketball. Since finishing his four-year career with the Seminoles, Thornton has gone through the long process of working out for various NBA franchises. The journey has taken him to Sacramento (Kings), Chicago (Bulls), Boston (Celtics), Charlotte (Bobcats), Minnesota (Timberwolves) and Milwaukee (Bucks).
